It’s been a few days that I’ve been back at school and have begun settling into my home for the year. My intent is to make it just that – a home – a place where I can feel cozy, comfortable, and can hopefully get some serious reading, writing, and enjoying myself done. So far it’s been mostly the last one! Today I am finally all unpacked and have begun cooking, a great sign that I’m getting pretty cozy here. On today’s menu was kale, quiche, and of course, brownies. It’s kind of funny, although I definitely have food here I am missing some basics that you’d think I’d have by now. Instead of olive oil, spices, and rice, I find my cabinets full of pickled beets, string beans, and dates. Perhaps it’s indicative of me trying to squeeze out the last of summer fun in any way I possibly can. Or maybe I just don’t want to go to the supermarket. Who can say?
I think the best part of being back has been being able to reconnect with friends that I’ve definitely missed these last few months. It’s such a great feeling to sit and catch up with someone and to have the time and space in which to do it. I’d say that I’m pretty grateful for that.
